Triggers/Fears/Squicks: Just nothing overly graphic in terms of descriptors. Eye and nail gore is also a big squick.
Character Motivation: Miu would be skeptical at first, and honestly probably wouldn't care too much about letting the entire world perish under this disease thing. She just doesn't care. But "letting the multiverse perish" would include her mother (who at this point she hopes/assumes is still alive) and her newfound friend Yuri. And since she doesn't particularly care about her own self she'd voluntarily go to keep them from asking Yuri to go, because Yuri can't say no to anyone and Miu has to protect her from herself.
VOLUNTEER PROFILE
(Mod Note: The application was written as a volunteer questionnaire to match the game thematically, characters have volunteered to be here! Players are expected to answer the questions truthfully from a player perspective as they would in any game application.
If a player would rather answer ICly to match the theme, they are more than welcome to! However, if you choose to do this please be aware all answers must be 100% true for your character, nothing can be submitted incorrectly or omitted because your character would refuse to provide the information asked.)
Name: Miu Hinasaki
Age: 17
Physical Appearance: Link
Point in Timeline: Final Chapter, before confronting her mother.
World Description: The world of Fatal Frame is actually pretty normal. It's just like the real world, circa 2006 in Fatal Frame V's timeline. The only difference is that spirits and psychic phenomena are definitely real, with a few special, but rare, devices having been invented to capture and record the spirit world to try and prove its existence. However, much like the real world, people tend to not believe in these sorts of things still. There are also area of communities lost from history that used to practice ancient rituals and customs that often involved a sacrifice of some sort, though these vary from place to place (and game to game. One game involves a single family's ritual sacrifice, another a village, etc.)
History/Background: http://bcl.rpen.us/zerowiki/index.php?title=Miu_Hinasaki
(Mod Note: These sections can be in bullet points or paragraph format but each trait shouldn't be more than 200 words.)
Noteworthy Positive Characteristics: - Loyal. When Yuri saves her life, Miu finds a kinship with the girl and becomes attached quickly despite herself. When Yuri goes missing, Miu instantly wants to return the favor and go save her despite the danger.
- Fearless. Miu dropped everything she was doing to go to the haunted suicide mountain to track down her mother, not heeding the danger. She faces down grotesque spirits and terrifying situations, hardly batting an eye and hiking up and down the mountain to do what needs to be done. At one point Yuri asks her if seeing the things she does scares her, and miu replies that she's not afraid fo anything, because she has nothing to lose.
- Hardworking. She's with a talent agency taking small acting roles and doing gravure modeling work, gaining some popularity and fans. She couldn't have done this by being lazy, so even though she might say she doesn't care about any of it, she still obviously cares enough to get ahead.
Noteworthy Negative Characteristics: - Cold. Unless someone's managed to gain her loyalty, Miu tends to act coldly towards everyone else, with only a bare minimum of politeness. She speaks bluntly and shortly with Ren, and even with Yuri at first.
- Distrustful. With her abilities, Miu can tell when someone is lying to her--and she pretty much thinks everyone is lying and only looking out for themselves. She only trusts herself.
- Dispassionate. Miu states that she's "empty," feeling nothing, and that's why she can 'become anything.' She speaks often in a bored tone, claiming that everything is just "so stupid."
- Stubborn. When Yuri goes missing, Miu decides to go up on the mountain to track her down. Despite Ren's protests of how dangerous it is, Miu basically tells him that she's going with or without his help, and even uses her powers against him to get him to back off.
- Arrogant. Several times in speaking with Yuri, Miu comes off as looking down on everyone else. She even tells Yuri straight up that she can do everything Yuri can do, but probably she's "stronger than [Yuri]."
Powers/Abilities: Extremely strong spiritual powers, which comes with the ability to see and speak with spirits. She also has a special ability that allows her to temporarily slow time for a few seconds.
Able to see a person’s thoughts, emotions, and delves into their memories with a touch. She’s almost constantly aware of someone’s true feelings, thought she tends to just let it wash over her without really digging further.
Kagemi: Shadow Reading. The ability to see the secrets of objects when handling them, and involves following the "shadows" of the past, of missing things or spirited away people. For example if someone was missing a ring, having the ring box means Miu could track down and locate the ring. Having just a photo of a missing person enables Miu to track that person down. Typically she can manage to track them far enough, but if they really don't want to be found then the trail might go cold eventually or get 'fuzzy,' leaving her unable to find the person. To quote one of the memos about it: The traces will attract malevolent ghosts, so it is dangerous to spend too long gazing at them. Yet another risk lies in following the trace of a person who has already died or has been spirited away, as you may be inadvertently following them into the world of the dead.
Mitori: Glancing (mitori) in Fatal Frame V is the ability to touch a spirit at the moment of defeat and witness a vision of its last moments. This sort of ties into the above of seeing a person’s thoughts and emotions and such. Miu uses this ability to see peoples' memories-- most typically their worst memories, which she then will drag up to make them relive/use against them.
It should also be noted that Miu is what’s called a 'shadowborn.' "Shadowborn (夜泉子, yomiko) is a term first mentioned in Fatal Frame V, referring to children born between a living woman and a dead man. Children born from this union are said to be half dead from birth and have extraordinarily strong sixth senses, making them feared - and sometimes revered - by those around them. Giving birth to one apparently drastically reduces the lifespan of the mother. How the child is conceived is currently unknown; however, it appears that it involves a strong emotional attachment to, and longing for, a deceased loved one."
Character Fears: Being alone/loneliness.
Personal Item: the Camera Obscura
