[Oh, a private message. Well she supposes that makes sense.]
Sect?
Well, it’s not a matter of if we CAN. Sure we CAN. But is it worth it? Are we strong enough to take them down or are we going to get all of us wiped out for trying?
Cultivation sect - I lead one. If we have enough people together, it may be worth it. At least, to get a more clear picture of what these people are capable of.
( looks like user JIANG.YANLI is giving you a call. do you pick up? do you let it ring through to answering device? does jiang yanli even know what that is and will she talk to and be somewhat distressed by the answering device?
[Shespends like 3 seconds being impressed that Yanli managed to figure out how to call someone before she picks up, confused as to why she's being called. She's instantly running through a list of likely scenarios Yanli might've found out to scold her about]
There's a beat where Miu processes that, opening and closing her mouth as she wanders to her closet to start looking for clothes. She's shorter than Yanli, so even her longest skirt or dress is going to be a little short on her, and her pants likely won't fit well.]
Uh. Sure. Where... are you? Oh. [She pauses then as if realizing something] Did you transform back?
“I was strongly encouraged.” She responds, giving him a look, since they both know it basically means she didn’t have much of a choice. Sure she could’ve said ‘no,’ but then they might’ve been disappointed. The power of police social constructed compels her.
She listens, smiling a little in amusement. He isn’t wrong, after all, but it’s just amusing to her—she’d said much of the same things when she’d arrived.
“We’ve got more power, strength-wise, but they’ve got the advantage over us in a lot of ways. We’re dependent on them for at least a little while. They’ve technically saved our lives even if they’re also part of the problem why we’re here to begin with. So they can lean on that. The government’s providing us with housing and money, and all we have to do is hold hands and ‘form bonds’ with people to stabilize the energy of this place that’s been thrown out of balance— or something like that. So they say.”
It’s an unfortunate and annoying situation. “We could probably take them over if we tried through forces alone, but you’d have a lot of trouble getting enough people on your side to do it, probably. And even if we did and won, it’s not like we know enough about this planet and all yet to do anything about it once we did. Me and the others have only been here a couple of months too— If they have a more powerful army or technology they’re hiding away, we don’t know about it. And it’d be pretty bad to have that whipped out as a nasty surprise. We could find out they’re playing nice because they can afford to, and if we fight back they might stop being so nice about it.”
Miu blows out a frustrated breath, fiddling a little with her flower hairpin to give her hands something to do. “It sucks. But for now, it’s better to smile and go with it until we know more about what we’re up against. Better to play nice on our side too for now.”
As much as she doesn’t like not having all the answers on if their intentions are truly kind or whatever, she can at least benefit from the generosity they’re showing for now. “Ruby’s a nice one though, I’m a little jealous. Ruby deals with fire.” As for herself, she reaches up to undo a button or two of her top, pulling the collar aside to show the swirl of blue on her collarbone without a hint of shame. “I’ve got sapphire— it’s more water-based.”
Jin Guangyao nods attentively as she speaks, taking care not to interrupt as he notes the information, and absorbs Miss Hinasaki's surprisingly shrewd perspective. It was clear these were points she had already considered, the way she turned each scenario around in her hands and examined the potential outcome. He finds himself impressed, once again - it was refreshing, to meet someone who wore such cleverness like a dagger beneath their clothes.
"A sensible conclusion, in my humble opinion," he finally replies, conversationally. "I've never understood the reasoning behind toppling an establishment for the mere sake of bucking at those in control. It is a romantic idea, but a rather foolish one."
If you wanted to take power and actually hold onto it, it was wiser to use the existing system as a scaffolding on which to climb and build. Why level a sturdy structure when you can simply occupy it - fill it with your tastes, room by room, until you are its master and no one has thought to question how that came to be. Subversive, but effective. And realistic.
Of course, he has no such machinations at the moment - just curiosity, and a desire to understand the dynamic he had fallen into. He'd arrived with nothing but his mind, and it wanted to arm itself with the weapons most familiar to it.
"They have the control of the environment, and we are at a distinct disadvantage when it comes to knowledge, then." He feels another small smile tug at his lips as he continues - how oddly natural it felt for this teenage girl to be discussing such heavy hypotheticals with him. "I look forward to observing from the comfort they have provided."
His eyebrows climb as she reveals the gem in her skin, though he doesn't blush or look away - growing up in a brothel, he had seen a good deal more with a good deal less provocation. His eyes trace the shape politely before dropping away. "I've not had the opportunity to do much with mine, I'm afraid. On the station, all I managed to witness was their influence on our...shape."
It's just a little bit of praise, and hardly really praise at that. But it's confirmation and validation, so it amounts to about the same. Miu looks a bit surprised and then pleased, smiling a bit more genuinely to herself as she inwardly preens at it. "Most people get really mad when you point it out to them. They want to swoop in and play the heroes and save the day, but that's not how reality works."
She hums thoughtfully and glances around at the buildings as she fixes her top, making sure they're going in the right direction and that she's not too caught up in the conversation to miss a turn or something. "Even if it's a gilded cage, I'm fine with taking advantage of that. It's kinda funnier that way anyhow. Making them think they've got a nice new docile pet, only to turn around and bite the hand that feeds once we can get our own two feet under us again."
Miu certainly seems amused by it anyhow. Though the mention on 'influence on our shapes' makes her grimace, making a face. "Oh, yeah. That. I don't know if that's going to become a thing we have to deal with regularly or not, but I hope not. It was..." How does she even BEGIN to explain these shenanigans. "Er... Not fun."
Interesting, though, she won't deny that, but mostly Not Fun and a little terrifying at times. "I think the different shapes depend on your gem. Someone I know who has amethyst turned into a dragon. I got antlers. Like a cute deer." She turns to briefly walk backwards and face him, bringing her hands up to her head to mime antlers and grins at him with a wink, deliberately being cutesy and disarming about it. She's just a cute young girl talking about 'biting the hand that feeds' and all, nothing abnormal to see here! Look how cute and weak she is!
[Her face screws up a moment like 'what the fuck' and she's trying to figure out how to feel about this. Like, first of all, how dare you?? He found (presumably) DECENT MILK TEA and HASN'T TOLD HER WHERE? She's going to kick his ass.
And then the follow-up happens and she's--
Ah.
That's... cute. It's sweet. She hates that it's cute and sweet and that it makes her feel kinda fuzzy. Ugh. How dare he.]
You got me.
Where are you? I definitely want it. The flavor better not be something weird!
[She arrives after a short wait, scanning the place until she finds him and can go flop into the seat opposite him.]
So what's with the need to, uh... prank? [Did this count as a prank... But if she acts like it isn't, then he might try to do something actually inconvenient]
[Miu will find herself getting a package at her place. It's nicely wrapped with a note attached with words written in elegant calligraphy:]
Hinasaki-guniang,
You have been kind to me since my arrival and I wished to be able to give you something to thank you for this. It took me time but I found these. I hope you will like them.
if this guy says he’s seeing a couple people and he starts dating ur professor but he says it’s an “open relationship”, isn’t that just the same as having a harem? like in a VN?
[ There's a figure outside Miu's door. Not right up against it, but standing fairly close and definitely not something she can miss. The snowman is pretty well made, honestly, but how it got there is a real mystery. It probably does not belong there, but it has a compensation prize: held in its stick arms is a bag of candy and a small round plush. Mostly to stare creepily at her. ]
